A gastronomic day in Bogota

Updated: May 20

Delightful Bites Featuring Bogota Gastronomy

I recently visited the bustling capital city of Colombia, Bogotá, for a day on business. Despite it being a workday, I was determined to make the most of my trip by indulging in my love for good food. After fulfilling my work commitments, I dedicated my free time to exploring some places and savoring this vibrant city's culinary delights.

Culinary Delights Explored

1. Canelazo Delight:

Originating from the Andes and enjoyed in several South American countries, including Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, and parts of Bolivia, this hot alcoholic drink is made with panela, cinnamon, and brandy. It was the perfect comfort for the rain that graced Bogotá that day.

2. Puchero Santafereño Adventure:

My next culinary adventure led me to savor the traditional dish "Puchero Santafereño."

Specific to the region of Santafé de Bogotá (now Bogotá), this slow-cooked stew combines meat, vegetables, and legumes to create a flavorful and hearty broth. Variations in Bogota food preparation abound, but the homemade taste and the combination of fresh ingredients make it a comforting meal.

3. Chicken Delight:

For lunch, I opted for a dish of chicken breast in caper sauce, accompanied by an avocado salad and steamed potatoes.

Noteworthy is the Colombian twist of incorporating capers, a typical ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine, into traditional Colombian dishes. The result was an exquisite dish that exceeded my expectations.

4. Asian Fusion at Night:

As night fell, I explored a restaurant inspired by Asian cuisine. Given my tendency to feel cold easily, I started with a Vietnamese soup featuring beef brisket, prepared with chicken broth, rice noodles, scallions, and cilantro—a perfect warmer for the night.

5. Sweet Ending:

Following my rule of always having room for dessert, I concluded the evening with a delightful chocolate mousse accompanied by vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Despite chocolate being one of my favorite sweets, this dessert was a standout.
